Chess Class: 2019-2020 Enrichment Program and Club

Registration for the lunchtime chess program is underway! The 10-week session takes place on Wednesdays from 11:15-12:10 pm during lunch and runs from 9/18/19 to 11/20/19. The chess program is taught by Chess-Ed instructors and is open to ALL Franklin students, and students of all chess abilities, novice to advanced. Professional instruction will include the basics for novice players and build with opening theory, middle game planning, and end game combinations for continuing and advanced students. Playing chess improves memory, uses analytical and critical thinking skills, teaches problem solving, responsibility, sportsmanship, social skills and more! The benefits of chess last a lifetime!

Chess-Ed will continue to provide this unique, exciting and dynamic chess instruction which lifts each student to a new level of expertise. Each week students will enjoy an engaging lesson with supervised time to play classmates. Students will grow their knowledge of the game - from the basics through opening theory, middle game tactics and end game combinations. Students’ vocabulary and math skills will continue to advance.
Studies confirm that the student who plays chess does better academically. Playing chess increases IQ performance, improves memory, uses analytical and critical thinking skills, teaches problem solving, responsibility, sportsmanship, social skills and more.
